Contact....
That's my kiddo and his daddy, learning about the power of technology.
So, I bet for all you parents (and students), you're wondering how much I am going to contact you right? Well, it's a catch 22, since I want you to be engaged and involved, but I don't want you cursing my name at the dinner table because I won't leave you alone. This is what I have decided... There is an amazing new system that texts one-way, and I will be utilizing this technology. It's called Kikutext, and it's awesome! I will send out a text once a week, just about what we did this week, if there are any huge assignments due, and if there is anything happening at school, like conferences, etc. Believe me, this is cool technology, and we can communicate directly and effectively, instead of through your teenager, who I am sure has other things on his/her mind. The problem with this is that this is one-way communication. I will be using this just for information purposes. I want to hear your voices. Part of engagement is listening to you, and making sure you are an active part of making your students succeed. So, once a month, I am going to host an informal get together at a pizza place. That will make us feel more at home, rather than in the classroom setting, and we can communicate better (lets us lift our walls, we are all human, right?). Raising kids is tough work, and so once a month, with pizza on me, we can talk about your concerns, or cares with the class and school in general. If you feel the class is too hard for your student, in that he/she is spending 6 hours reading, or too easy, in that they never do anything because they don't feel challenged.... I want to hear it! If your student just hates the material, well I can't revise the past (that's what your job is in Project #3). But let's have discussions, and pizza! Pizza always makes everything better! And don't worry, the pizza is on me! |
